Hand Lettering 2015

I took up hand lettering and calligraphy this year in earnest. I find lettering is more like illustration than writing, which suits me as my handwriting has always been pretty terrible. I already had most of the tools I need to make a start and I’ve accumulated a few fun new toys as I’ve gone along.

Hound – Driveway

Hound released their new EP Driveway recently and asked me to put together a cover in the style of degraded 80s electronica. I had some fun experimenting with Photoshop filters and techniques to get this look.

Inktober Postits

Inktober 2015 – Part 2

I didn’t manage to finish something every day, but even arbitrary deadlines can help spur you to action and I was able to put a lot of equipment through testing I’d been meaning to do for a while. I actually enjoyed these little post-it notes the most out of any of it. Super disposable, diminutive and adhesive. I’m thinking I might try to cover a wall with these little things.

Inktober 2015 – Part 1

I’ve been in the bleachers too long.

I decided to tag along on #inktober and spend a month focusing on inking, giving some of my new inks and pens a proper acid test in the process.

Pilot Parallel Pen Illustration

The Pilot Parallel Pen

The Pilot Parallel Pen is a lettering tool similar to an automatic pen in its utility, but with the portability and control of a cartridge based fountain pen. I have a couple and have started integrating them into my lettering and sketching exercises, with some energetic and mercurial results!
